2024 Spring Skincare Favourites!
Mists, essences, cleansers and serums. How fun!
The flowers are blooming, the sun is setting later, and extra antihistamines are on hand for strong hay fever days. Welcome to Spring.
A change in your skincare routine is expected because the environment is changing. The weather is no longer harsh from freezing cold temperatures, so we can bid our extremely thick moisturisers goodbye.
What has stayed the same is my love for products that strengthen the skin barrier and ingredients that are calming, especially in such an allergy-prone season. My exfoliation choices are gentler, and my antioxidant products are working hard. Here are the products I’ve been using constantly over the last three months.
BUBBLE Bounce Back Balancing Toner Mist
Bubble has recently hit the Australian shores and is now stocked at Priceline. Best of all, the prices don’t cost an arm and a leg.
I bought the Bounce Back Refreshing Toner for $20 while I was visiting Perth in October. On the warmer days, my skin craved more hydration for a cooling effect, so a mist was perfect. I wanted to touch my face as little as possible, so a mist was perfect.
This mist contains willow bark extract for a gentle exfoliating effect. Niacinamide and camellia sinensis leaf extract (green tea) help alleviate redness and irritation.
ESSANO Clean Canvas Jelly Cleanser
Essano is a new brand for me despite the fact that we are both the same age. For the last 24 years, the New Zealand brand has found popularity through its rosehip skincare range, but last year, it released the new Essano Happy Skin range.
The cleanser has a vibrant orange jelly/gel texture. It contains fruit enzymes (mango, pineapple, papaya), hyaluronic acid, and a multi-amino-acid complex. The fruit enzymes help with gentle exfoliation, leaving my skin feeling fresher than ever.
Despite my endorsement, sensitive skin types may have a rough time. On Reddit, there’s been anecdotal evidence of people having allergic reactions and serious reactions. Please patch test first!
AXIS-Y Vegan Collagen Eye Serum*
This eye serum has immensely enhanced my skincare routine. It has a roller ball applicator attached that glides around the eye area, providing a refreshing, cooling effect. The texture is very lightweight (perfect for warmer days!).
If there’s one way to influence this product, check out these packed ingredients: Triple hyaluronic acid, green apple, green plum, green grape, sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil, collagen, meadowfoam seed oil, fig fruit extract and more.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence*
I could have sworn that I hated snail mucin in the past. But apparently, my skin is obsessed with it now. So, what’s changed? I’m not really sure, but I can tell you that I use it every day, morning and night.
Snail mucin products are known to be sticky and slimy, so I was expecting the worst. Fortunately, it’s such a nice addition to the routine and doesn’t overwhelm the skin. It’s not texture-heavy, but I would steer clear from using this on 35-degree days.
Containing 96% snail secretion filtrate (now that I’m reading this, it kinda sounds gross lol) to improve skin texture and gently exfoliate. Whereas allantoin and panthenol are used to soothe and calm the skin.
