2024 Winter Skincare Favourites
Five products that saved my skin this year from Melbourne's winter.
Now with the weather starting to warm up, there’s no better time than to share what products worked well for the winter weather. Every day during the colder months felt the same: Waking up to a dark, freezing and gloomy day. There’s no desire to get out of bed, always being wrapped around 4 different blankets and yet somehow the crisp air of the morning winter can still get through.
Our skin is drier, sensitive and bleaker. So, the skincare we use is more focused on how to stop our skin from inflammation. It becomes harder to have a moment of self-care: not even the fluffy dressing gown is countering the stone-cold sheet mask.
Moisturisers are thicker. Serums are heavier. And in those rare moments when we need that little extra love? Wash-off masks bring that extra moisture that the skin dreams of, just like a big, warm hug.
Cica Advanced Cream: Starting with the cream I seemingly cannot stop talking about. This dense, hydrating and simply delicious cream saved me. Cica is a term for the skincare ingredient Centella Asiatica, a popular ingredient in the Asian beauty industry for anti-inflammatory properties - a great remedy for tired, dry and flaky skin. It’s going to be one of those products that feels like it’ll last forever.
Skin Software Retinol Complex Oil: There are not many retinol oils on the market as compared to creamy retinol serums and moisturisers. In a nutshell for the most researched skincare ingredient, retinol helps with cellular turnover, by removing dead skin cells and leaving the healthier skin cells to thrive. Appearance-wise, this is great for textured skin and pigmentation. Mixing it with your moisturiser can help decrease sensitivity, otherwise, it’s also suitable to place it before night cream.
Fluff Moisturising Face Mask: A creamy, thick, buttery paste to slather on. This mask contains baby granules that you can massage into your skin for a more exfoliating effect, but my favourite aspect is the enveloping scent as soon as you put it on. P.S. You can also use it as a thick moisturiser!
Elucent Anti-Aging Serum: I don’t like to say that I enjoy products as soon as I use them, but that’s exactly what happened with this Elucent serum. The serum contains 16% AHAs, a mixture of glycolic and lactic acid. Of course, caution must be advised when using chemical exfoliants at a higher level, be careful of skin sensitivities and open wounds. Tieing in with niacinamide and panthenol that’s garnished with healing properties, it’s a perfect combination to soothe the skin while removing excess dead skin cells.
O Cosmetics Hydra Plus Sleep-In Mask: A perfect routine add-on if your moisturiser isn’t doing enough. Helps relieve those dry patches, (particularly the ones around the nose from tissues) and has a blend of peptides specifically named V8 Peptide Complex®, which allows more communication between the skin cells. A handy tip is to massage it well into the skin once applied.
