Omorovicza: The Skin Renewal Collection & Perfecting Duo Set
Boasting from Budapest, the luxury Hungarian skincare brand is being put to the test as we try seven products from the range.
My journey with Omorovicza began in 2018. I was in the first year of my Dermal Science degree, which projected me into this beauty sphere of endless products. From someone who didn’t even know how to cleanse at the time, let’s just say I jumped into the deep end and swam with as many products as I could.
This goal guided me to the Lookfantastic monthly subscription box, which became my access to an indulgence of products that allowed me to try brands I’d never heard of before. This is how I was first introduced to the Omorovicza mud mask and (spoilers) I loved it.
Fast forward to 2023. Mecca’s holiday gift sets have been released and I find myself doom-scrolling the website to find what sets are going to be more bang for my buck. I ended up choosing the Skin Renewal Collection ($171 AUD, now $185) and Perfecting Duo set ($78 AUD), both from Omorovicza.
This banger of a review will analyse seven different mini-sample products of the ‘groundbreaking Hungarian skincare’ brand, countering in price point, texture, and ingredients.
1. Cleansing Foam ($132 AUD for 150ml):
The cleansing foam has a sticky, light blue texture that softens as you add water to cleanse. Advertised as sulphate-free, it holds a gentle and soft feeling.
This cleanser, especially at the price point did not wow me. It’s a cleanser. It does its job. But it does not feel any special to my other cleansers. I don’t yearn for it.
Ingredients:
Copper Gluconate: Detoxifying and purifying properties. Draws out excess oil.
Apple pectin: Rich in malic acid. Forms a protective layer of the skin, increases Natural Moisturising Factors (NMFs) - great for hydrating purposes.
Healing Concentrate™: Potent minerals from the thermal baths of Budapest. A patented, bio-fermented active ingredient.
2. Queen of Hungary Mist ($132 AUD for 100ml):
Inspired by the Queen of Hungary Water, the world’s first recorded perfume, formulated for Queen Elizabeth of Hungary in the 14th century, this mist has a reputation to uphold. It’s a beautiful, thin, light mist. This may be the thinnest mist I’ve used. Like a review I read on Mecca, it does feel like an “escapism” and in a way, and that’s what Omorovicza is all about. Packaged in the most beautiful glass bottle, but the prestige fades away as the Omorovicza logo rubs off the bottle, onto your hands.
Ingredients:
Orange blossom: Used to purify the skin. Helps with the aroma of the product.
Sage leaf water: Helps with the aroma of the product.
Apple pectin
Healing Concentrate™
3. Refining Facial Polisher ($132 AUD for 100ml):
This dark concoction is oily, sticky, and smells like the Hungarian moor mud.
The refining facial polisher is too abrasive for the face, so I have been using this to exfoliate my body. If the mechanical exfoliant were slightly more gentle, then it would be so much better, otherwise, it feels like sandpaper on the face.
It does feel correct when using it on the body, the moor mud makes the skin shine. I love that it’s not heavy so the texture can move seamlessly on the body.
Ingredients:
Hungarian moor mud: Contains a combination of calcium and magnesium carbonates, with fulvic and humic acids. Detoxifying, purifying, balances. Contains thermal water.
Pumice: “a fine powder from lava stones formed from the magma of Strombolian volcanoes,” that helps remove dead skin cells and overall congestion.
Lactobionic Acid: A polyhydroxy acid (PHA) that is derived from plant extracts. The larger molecular size means that it is more gentle compared to AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids).
Healing concentrate™
Copper Gluconate
4. Deep Cleansing Mask ($157 AUD for 50ml):
To recap, I first set my eyes and skin with this tub in 2018, so I was so happy to have it back in my life. Since then, I’ve tried many Mud masks, and they can be too thick at times. However, this mask is light and thin, while also having exfoliating properties. This mud mask can help your skin breathe while having it on, rather than constricting it.
Ingredients:
White Clay: Purifying properties, reducing excess oil without drying out the skin.
Healing Concentrate™
Hungarian moor mud
5. Rejuvenating Night Cream ($277 AUD for 50ml):
A Firming, melting and soft buttery texture that’s similar to Kiehl’s Creme de Corps body lotion, this tub of softness is almost like a dream. This is great for all skin types, but there is room for improvement. Like the Queen of Hungary mist, the brand logo rubs off the tub onto your hands. The scent has a deep, fruity aroma - a mature scent.
Ingredients:
Hazelnut peptides: Peptides are chains of amino acids used for intracellular communication. Hazelnut peptides specifically contain amino acids such as arginine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid. Helps strengthen the skin barrier.
Apricot Kernel Oil: Rich in vitamins C and E - nourishing, and protects against environmental stress.
Carrot oil: contains Vitamin A, a collagen-boosting and overall anti-aging giant.
Healing concentrate™
Shea Butter: a softening agent that contains fatty acids, helping smooth the skin.
6. Cushioning Day Cream ($277 AUD):
A botanical scented cream, lighter than the night cream. As it does have a thinner texture, dry skin types may not find this hydrating enough. I’m not completely sold on this and do not see myself walking to Mecca to buy the normal size of this. Unfortunately underwhelming.
Ingredients:
Marine Plankton Extract: Stimulating collagen and elastin, helping plump the skin
Healing concentrate™
7. Perfecting Lip Balm ($77 AUD for 10ml):
For a $77 lip balm, I’m expecting it to wipe my ass. But in all seriousness, it is a moisturising, melting pot of pure soft butter.
Ingredients:
Omega 6 ceramides: Restore and replenish ceramides within the skin, which are naturally found in the epidermis.
Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid draws in moisture by attracting water molecules.
Healing concentrate™
Omorovicza talks a big game, but I love nothing more than a brand staying true to its brand story. From the packaging to the ingredients, this brand knows how its heart beats.
My next Omorovicza wishlist items to try are:
Thermal Cleansing Balm
Queen Essence
Instant Perfection Serum (HATE the name of that one, but I am very intrigued).
